Family is a tale of internicine conflict in a world of superpowered gangsters. Written by Rob Williams and appearing in the Judge Dredd Megazine in 2003, it was the first time I had done full black and white artwork since Lux & Alby. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. You get used to having the crutch of colour, keeping the linework clean and simple, not really using it as expressively as it can be used. I'd have to say I learned a lot from doing Family, which is a way of saying that the final result is a bit uneven in tone. Some of it is as good as any work I've done though and I fully intend to do more black and white art again soon.
