Welcome to the Semi-Official Nikolai Dante Website. For those new to this site, it is maintained by me ( Simon Fraser ) in my own time and for my own amusement and is absolutely nothing to do with Rebellion Developments Inc or the editors of 2000AD. If you like the page then e-mail me, if you like 'The Adventures of Nikolai Dante' then e-mail me. All your feedback is appreciated.

Nikolai Dante , for those not in the know, is a comics character that appears in the pages of 2000AD, the galaxies greatest comic, created by Robbie Morrison ( writer )& Simon Fraser ( artist) .

Update 20th May 2004

If you have gotten this far then you will know that this site has been shunted sideways and I have a proper simonfraser.net site at the root of my domain. That does pretty much imply that this Dante site is now deceased, at least as far as any major updates are concerned. I'll keep all the existing information available, but probably prune the gallery section to just Dante specific artwork. Anything new will go into the 'Work' section of the new simonfraser.net site. I am no longer directly involved with The Adventures of Nikolai Dante, so I can't really justify spending a lot of time on this site......though judging by the annual frequency of my recent updates, I've not really been very dedicated of late.

If you had a look at my 'News' section then you would know about the new Dante collection books being published jointly by Rebellion and DC comics. I don't need to tell any regular visitors here how long we have been waiting for this and how happy I am about it. I'll keep you updated as best I can in the 'News' section of Simonfraser.net.

It just remains for me to say thank you to all you Dante fans out there for your interest and support, just because this site is stopping doesn't mean that the future isn't very bright for our boy. Here's to his health!

Simon Fraser.

Update 16th July 2003

I`ve got something fun for you; yes I drew it , but no it`s not who you think it is....sort of.

All will become clear in a 2000ad coming your way very soon.

Other news; I`m told there will be a Dante story in the upcoming Prog 2004 special and that I will be drawing it. Robbie is writing the script in between stints on his regular gig over on the Authority at Wildstorm.

The Dante collected Albums are now sceduled for September 2004, one coming out every 4 months. Rebellion themselves will be publishing them in a new hardback format which we think looks great! Each book will be around the 48 page mark that is normal for comics in France. This means that some of the longer story arcs will have to span more than one book. We`ll see if we can get some extra bits and bobs put together for each book, kind of DVD extras if you will. Just so you might consider rebuying material that you might already have bought in the original Hamlyn/Octopus Edition.

I should have some announcements about a new project I`ll be undertaking this Autumn, I can`t say much about it now, but it will be quite similar to Dante, retro sci-fi, I`ll be doing full colour artwork for it and it will be published in France. Watch this space....

Update 18th May 2003

I`ve added a couple of recent pics to the Illustration page of the Portfolio section. The Durham Red and the Dredd were comissions , which I am normally happy to do for a reasonable fee. The Lilly Mackenzie pic is from the Bristol comics festival charity deck of cards and the original art will be auctioned off at the Festival .

News on the Dante collected albums series is still a bit vague, I`m told that they will not appear before early 2004 now. In answer to your numerous questions of the subject, there will be no new Dante until at least then either. Sorry about that. Robbie is going great guns with his new gig on The Authority over at Wildstorm and I`m currently developing a project for the Francophone market. As soon as anything develops on the Dante front, you will read it here first.

Update 16th March 2003

Ok, here`s the big update I`ve been promising you for ...years probably. I`ve completely overhauled the portfolio section and added tonnes of new stuff. There is also a much more elegant menu for it as well.

You will notice another icon in the main menu, please feel free to visit http://lillymackenzie.com , just a little something I`m working on in my spare time.

The updates for The Story So Far section are currenty suffering from technical difficulties, if anyone out there can supply me with a Mac compatible floppy disk drive then I would be more than happy. A lot of the documentation I need is stuck on Robbies old, near death, Mac.

I haven`t heard any more on the collected Dante books yet, I`ll make some enquiries and post the results here.

There may not be another upade before the Bristol Comics Con in May, so I`ll look forward to seeing you all there.

Update 15th November 2002

As some of you might be aware already, this isn't exactly hot news anymore, Nikolai Dante recieved the Eagle award for 'Best Character' this summer. Tharg comissioned a an appropriately celebratory cover for the occasion which I'll be putting up here soon, along with the Dante Vampire cover I did a while back too.

Some very good news indeed has come my way recently, apparently Rebellion are now planning to collect the complete Nikolai Dante story so far in a series of European style hardcover Albums. There would be 12 (!!) books required to bring the story up to date, coming out every 6 months. By then of course we might well have even more Dante in print....time will tell.

If you are a Judge Dredd Megazine reader then you might be aware of a new 8 part story that I am drawing based on some very classy Rob Williams scripts which will be called 'Family', it's a slightly futuristic Gangster Noir drawn in gritty black & White and it looks nothing like Dante. The first part , which is 10 pages long , will be out within a month I'm told.

I'm sorry that the long promised structural improvements to this site have been so long delayed. I've found myself without access to a regular internet account recently and this has scuppered me completely.

Update May 14th 2002

Oh boy. Yet another big gap between updates, I hope you folk are remembering to breath out there. Ok well the "The Return of the Gentleman Thief" set of stories is now all done and dusted. Some months ago in my case.

The observant among you will have noticed that the colouring on this set of stories was a bit of a mixed bag, for various reasons Alison Kirkpatrick was not able to do the whole lot. Thanks are due to Chris Blyth and particularly to Gary Caldwell, who at ones stage was colouring the same page I was drawing, though he was in Scotland and I was in Africa....proof , if proof were needed, that technology is improving all our lives!

There is some heavy duty Pirate action in store for you next, courtesy of Katarina Dante. Dante and his Mum take to the waves very soon now, though I don't have an exact date to tell you as nobody tells me anymore. This will be drawn by the ever wonderful Mr John Burns and written by the stalwart Mr Robert G. Morrison.

After that Dante is likely going to have a good rest as we all have other things we need to do and Dantes has had a lot of our attention for the last few years. Fear not Nikolai Dante is rather hard to get rid of as he has proven time and time again.

I'll be reworking this site as soon as I get a moments peace. Some major structural revisions are due, not to mention some updates. Hang in there.
